We would often hear the term of hidung belang (masher). This term is used to refer to men who like to tease a woman, or like to play women. How does the origin of this word?
Allegedly, the term appeared in the century of 17 to 18, the Dutch colonial period in Indonesia. At that time, the Dutch who came to Indonesia almost all without wives. According to Victor Ido in Indie in den Ouden Gouden Tijd, it raises social and moral problems seriously. One of them is the emergence of Dutch male concubine with native women.
One woman who had engaged in love with a Dutch man, and caused a commotion is Saartje Specx.
